Dogs break loose for home track
After being able only to read about the feats of the Georgia track team, Bulldog fans finally will get their first chance to see them in action at the Spec Towns Invitational all-day Saturday at Forrest Towns Track.
“It’s good to finally have a home meet,” Mitchell said. “We’re kind of an unknown team because we’re always on the road during indoor season, and we don’t have any home cross country meets. The kids are excited and ready to compete in from of the home crowd.”
Much like the indoor season, the Bulldogs will rely on their throwing team to score big in Saturday’s meet. At last week’s Alabama Relays, freshman Reese Hoffa set a meet record in the shot put with a toss of 62 feet, seven and one-quarter inches. Georgia took five of eight throwing events at the Alabama Relays, where more than 50 teams competed.
The Bulldogs will face three Southeastern Conference rivals Saturday, as Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky travel to Athens. Massachusetts, Western Carolina and High Point University will complete the seven-team field.
Field events will begin at 9:45 p.m., and track events will start off at 1 p.m.
