With a Southeastern Conference championship well within its grasp, the men’s golf team travels to Rome this weekend for the Carpet Capital Collegiate Tournament. The competition will be tough, as 13 of the top 25 teams in the nation will be on hand. However, coach Chris Haack is confident of his team’s chances.
"I feel pretty good about us playing well up there," Haack said. "We have to play solid. It’s gonna be a tough field."
Haack says his team’s success depends on if four of five players can put together a solid weekend.
"Two are playing really well and three are starting to come around," Haack said. "I’m confident that we can get a couple of good scores."
Georgia is coming off their second team title of the year at the Alabama Spring Invitational. Parrott also claimed his second individual title of the year, finishing four-under-par, one stroke ahead of teammate Ryuji Imada.
Parrott is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation after finishing in the top 20 of all seven tournaments in which he has competed this year. Teammate Michael Morrison is ranked No. 66.
The Bulldogs will try to use this weekend as a springboard to the SEC championships, which will be held later this month in Athens.
"It’s going to be a major disappointment if we don’t win (the SEC)," Haack said. "It would mean a lot to the program. It would be a huge positive."
