The big game is on, people are starving and you need to do your laundry before you can make any other plans.

No problem, you can hit Harvey Washbangers and get everything done at once.

Harvey Washbangers is a new establishment where visitors can eat, drink and do laundry.

Athens has heard about Harvey Washbangers for months, and now the place is open.

Owners John Peloso and his wife Angela are proud to add the Baxter Street franchise of Harvey Washbangers to the chain that has been a success among college towns.

The original Harvey Washbangers was founded by David Harvey 14 years ago in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Knoxville location, which included a bar and laundromat, has since closed, but Harvey Washbangers has expanded to five college towns, which each maintain a restaurant, bar and laundromat.

John Peloso, who previously owned a different franchise in Delaware, heard about Harvey Washbangers and decided to give his career a fresh start.

"I went on the Internet, found the franchise, and said I was interested. Harvey Washbangers is a great idea and I knew that this is what I wanted to do," John said. "The franchiser e-mailed me back and wanted to open a location in Athens."

Harvey Washbangers held its grand opening on Thursday, Oct. 12. The establishment appeals to students who are looking for fast eats in a relaxing environment.

Courtney Patrylo, a junior from Peachtree City, likes hanging out at Washbangers because it makes doing her laundry a social event.

"Washbangers is great because I can throw in a load while having dinner with my friends," Patrylo said.

Harvey Washbangers serves American and Southwestern style food, including sandwiches, burgers, quesadillas and hot wings. Appetizers and entrees cost around five dollars.

Harvey Washbangers serves more than 70 types of beer, both domestic and imports. If customers drink every beer in less than 60 days, they will receive a T-shirt and have their names placed on a plaque on the wall.

Customers also get a T-shirt and their name on a plaque if they can conquer a plate of the restaurants’ Release Form Wings.

The name is derived from the fact that customers have to sign a release form because of the wings’ incredibly spicy nature.
