Register for parking lot Wednesday
Parking Services officials unveiled a parking lot registration Web site Wednesday at the last Parking Services Task Force meeting of the school year.
Parking lot registration for the next school year will begin May 1 and will be done completely online through the Parking Services Web site (www.parking.uga.edu).
“(How early) you get online to make selections has nothing to do with what lot you’ll get in July,” said Jennifer Tougas, assistant manager of Parking Services. “There’s no rush. You have two months to do this.”
Phase One registration ends June 30, by which time everyone must have entered their parking lot selections on the Web site.
Tougas said only 200 people can make their selection at any given time.

“It should, for the majority of people, only take a couple of minutes to (choose parking lots),” she said.
Parking priority maps will be available online to aid students, faculty and staff in choosing from the 61 lots on campus. There is no limit to the number of lots a person can select, though they must be entered in the order of preference, Tougas said.
During Phase Two of the process — July 5 to July 19 — people will purchase their permits.
A member from UGA Carpool also presented the group’s Web site (http://ugasmis.org/carpool), which is designed to help people organize a carpool group.
Mark Reynolds, the UGA Carpool task force representative and the Web site’s designer, said 128 people have registered their information on the site, and 38 people have actually logged in to search for carpoolers.
Those interested in finding a carpool group must enter their name, e-mail address, sex, where they are commuting from, work or class schedule and whether they are a student, staff or faculty member.
“I hope once people learn about the site, they will use it,” he said.
Other issues discussed at the meeting included handicap and carpool parking.
“We’re going to run handicap people through the priority lot system,” said Joyce Hardman, Auxiliary Services department manager. “If (the space they are assigned) doesn’t meet their needs, they can appeal to the Parking Services manager.”
Auxiliary Services also determined students would have until Sept. 30 to create a carpool group.
Hardman said Parking Services would set aside 10 to 20 spaces in prime lots in each region of campus for carpoolers.
If the carpool disbands, then those involved will have to go back into the parking waiting list and be re-assigned priority. They also will have to pay the fees remaining on their other parking space.
