Soccer Dogs set for a tough road ahead

After splitting last weekend’s road games with LSU and Arkansas, the Georgia women’s soccer team prepares to head out once again this weekend visiting Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
The Soccer Dogs carry a 10-6 overall record (3-3 SEC) into the last of their away conference contests.
“This is going to be a tough road trip for us,” head coach Sue Patberg said. “It’s going to be a long bus ride, and it’ll be two really competitive teams.”
The Soccer Dogs visit Lexington, Ky., tonight to take on the Wildcats, who are 6-6-3 on the season but 4-1-2 in the SEC.
“Kentucky is doing really well, they played Florida close so we’re expecting a great game out of them,” Patberg said.
After the night game in Lexington, the team will head to Nashville for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Commodores (6-6-2, 2-4-1 SEC).
“(This will be a) critical weekend, but I think we’ll play well under pressure, and we’re excited for the trip,” Patberg said.
Critical may well be the understatement of the weekend, as all three teams will be looking toward the SEC and NCAA tournaments.
“At this point, everyone is playing for their seeding in the tournament, and Vanderbilt is probably playing for a spot in the tournament,” Patberg said. “We’re playing for getting better seeding, right now we’re sixth, but there are still three games to play.”
Kickoff for the Kentucky game today is set for 5 p.m., a slight departure form the Soccer Dogs’ 7 p.m. norm. Sunday’s game against the Commodores will start at 2 p.m.
Georgia will return home next Friday for the SEC regular season finale against Tennessee at 7 p.m. at the Women’s Soccer Complex on South Milledge Avenue.
