Art exhibit displays album covers
Nuci’s Space and The Lyndon House Arts Center have teamed up for the second year in a row to combine two great loves in Athens — art and music.
“Headspinning: Inspiration from the Canvas to the Album Cover” — an art exhibit showcasing aspects or inspirations of album covers — will run until August 13.
Last year, the two joined together for “Rock Paper Scissors,” which featured rock music poster art.
This year, the exhibit is in the main gallery and takes on a new form to present visuals of album covers of local bands or by local artists.
The artwork includes album covers of local bands, like R.E.M., Five Eight, Phosphorescent, Now It’s Overhead, Elf Power and others.
Artists include Chris Bilheimer, Howard Finster, Andy LeMaster, Andy Cherwick, Sandra Lee Phipps and Stephanie Dodson, among others.
The exhibit is located on the second floor of the Atrium Gallery at the Arts Center on Hoyt Street and can be viewed during normal business hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon until 9 p.m. and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Arts Center is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
