What is the most common name in the world? Who holds the title of having the best-selling album of all time? What two U.S. presidents died on the same day?

The answers to these seem obvious to trivia masters.

Athens offers trivia nearly every night of the week at many of its bars and restaurants downtown.

Most include questions from a wide variety of themes, and many give different prizes, including cash, gift certificates and clothing items to their weekly winners.

Wild Wing Café on Washington Street features a trivia night every Sunday. A weekly winner is awarded cash, with lesser amounts going to the second and third place winners. After 10 weeks, the winning teams compete to take home a bigger cash prize.

TRIVIA
Sundays: Wild Wing Cafe at 8:30 p.m., Taco Mac at 9 p.m. Mondays: Taco Stand at 9 p.m. Wednesdays: Blind Pig Tavern at 9 p.m., Jigsy's Old Forge Pizza at 8 p.m.

Taco Stand on Broad Street holds a trivia night every Monday and offers prizes, such as bar tabs, gift certificates for food, as well as hats and t-shirts from its various sponsors.

Jigsy’s Pizza on Baxter Street has its trivia night on Wednesday and is known to offer concert tickets as prizes, in addition to the usual gift certificates and t-shirts.

Sara Brown, a junior from Atlanta, started going to Taco Mac for trivia night as a sophomore because of an overall lack of fun things to do on Sunday nights. She said it’s a free, or at least cheap, form of entertainment.

“It’s fun and is a chance to be intellectual and competitive in a social setting,” she said.

In the past, her groups have won Taco Mac gift certificates, pint glasses and other fun items, she said.

As trivia nights have exploded in popularity, rooms are often filled to capacity.

“Business is pretty good on those nights, and we tend to pack out almost every table,” said Tim Schreiber, a manager at Taco Stand.

Plus, there are often drink specials at these locations for those participating in the trivia night.

“Our $10, 100-ounce beer tower is popular with our trivia players,” said Warren Coleman, a manager at Wild Wing Café.

It is best to arrive earlier than when the questions start to make sure there is room, he said.

By the way: Mohammed is the most common name in the world. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is the best-selling album of all time. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826.

But the masters probably already knew that.
