‘Dark’ goes bananas for pajamas, comedy

By on March 2, 2006

Those who need an alternative to the typical Friday night of bar hopping, Dawgs After Dark provides just that.

There will be a Pajama Jam Friday which includes Lowell Sanders, a comedian from Detroit.

“My shows are about personal experience, everyday life, current events – things that are funny,” he said.

Sanders started performing while studying telecommunications at Eastern Michigan University.

“That's how I broke into comedy because I took theater communications classes, because I used to be (too) shy to get up on stage, so when I was in college in my theatre classes, I did stand up,” he said.

And he was in good company after he got started.

He recently finished his touring with comedian George Lopez, but he began with some other well-known comedians, like Tim Allen and Dave Coulier of the sitcom “Full House.”

Now he's performing at clubs and colleges.

Sanders has been on several televisions shows including “Home Improvement” and “The Drew Carey Show.” He's also been in films, like “Joe Somebody” with Allen.

Sanders said he will talk about his college experience, as well as music Friday.

“I cover a wide range of subjects that college students can relate to and love,” he said.

Other activities for this week's Dawgs After Dark include make-your-own DVD, Build-a-Bear, a massage therapist, caricature drawings and big chair photos.

The DVD station allows students to make a DVD of them singing in front of a green screen after choosing their own props, costumes and backgrounds.

Freshman Jessie Fawley said that her favorite activity was waiting in line for a Build-a-Bear, which Dawgs After Dark has offered before.

“I met a few people and got to know them pretty well. After sitting there for three-plus hours, you hear some pretty funny stories,” she said.
