Mercury Lounge hosts first wine, art show

By on March 2, 2006

The building that usually uses its space for musicians and “Mario” will turn its venue into one for a more mature crowd for a night.

The Mercury Lounge, which opened in mid-October, will have a wine tasting and art show Saturday, along with live music.

The venue usually has bands playing for college students and game nights – and there's a TV at the bar for customers to play video games while they drink.

But it's starting to offer events for an older crowd.

WINE TASTING
When: 5 p.m. Saturday (wine tasting from 5 to 7, art show begins at 7 and live music from 7 to 10:30)
Where: The Mercury Lounge on Clayton Street
Cost: $12/wine tasting with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Nuci’s Space

“We try to do live jazz weekly, and we have a DJ come in from time to time,” said Chip Herr, owner and manager of the venue.

Saturday's event is the bar's first art show, but Herr said it plans to have more.

Ian Morris and Chip McKenzie will play live music, and Morris will also have his art at the event.

Raymond Vineyards, which is located in Napa Valley, Calif., will have wine from its reserve selection, called the “R Collection.”
