‘Hookers’ to perform for Eastsiders
The Bearfoot Hookers will bring its own definition of country to Eastwood Pub Saturday.
“Anything that comes out of my mouth is country,” lead singer and guitarist Ty Manning said jokingly.

University students might be surprised at how country music is defined at a show by The Bearfoot Hookers.
The members said they don’t appreciate the country that can be heard on the radio today.
“People who listen to Travis Tritt and Kenny Chesney ruin country music,” said Steve LaBate, part-time guitarist for the band.
Although the Bearfoot Hookers will primarily play its country music, it also has shows where the members play mostly rock music.
LaBate said he thought the great thing about his band is its ability to bridge the gap between the different scenes in Athens.
And not just between different genres – between different lifestyles.
From the Caledonia Lounge to Eastwood Pub, the band has played in many places in and outside of downtown.
Manning said although he enjoyed playing downtown, he felt like the audiences in other places appreciated their shows more.
“People downtown take for granted that there are a lot of bands playing each night,” he said.
Bassist Jon Tonge also said the crowds are generally crazier at places not downtown.
“Eastwood Pub is what a lunatic asylum would be like, if it served alcohol,” he said of the bar on the Eastside of town.
