All Tommy Hurley said he wanted was a free T-shirt, but he ended up winning a brand new car.

On Nov. 25 at the Georgia vs. Georgia Tech football game Hurley, a junior from Macon, noticed Pontiac was holding a drawing and giving away free T-shirts.

“That’s all he really wanted,” Hurley’s mother, Toni, said, even though the top prize was a new, custom G5.

He filled out an entry card and went on his way.

Over Christmas break, Hurley said he was surprised to be named one of five finalists in the competition. He was given tickets to the Chick-fil-a Bowl and the chance to win the car or
the second-place prize of $1,000.

Before the game began, Hurley and the other four finalists had 30 seconds to throw as many footballs as they could through a large Pontiac symbol on the field.

Hurley tied with another University student to make it to the final round between the third and fourth quarter, in which the pair competed for the car.

Hurley won the car after throwing six footballs in 30 seconds.

“I’m still getting over it,” he said. “It’s Karma.”

Pontiac upgraded the car from a G5 to a 2007 G5 GT, which Hurley custom designed.

“It’s the top of the line,” said Scott Hauser, a representative from General Motors.

Hurley chose a red five-speed with silver trim, steering wheel controls and a custom interior.

He received the car Monday morning at Heyward Allen Motor Company.

This is his first car with air conditioning.

“We really care for our customers,” said Hauser.

“I can vouch for that,” said Hurley.
