The newest UGA Idol, Teah Glenn, is $500 richer this morning thanks to a Christina Aguilera song and years of singing practice.

Glenn was ecstatic.

“This is unbelievable,” she said. “It’s like I’m in God’s favor.”

Campus Superstar’s annual UGA Idol competition was held last night at Hodgson Hall.

In addition to the impressive vocal talent of 15 finalists, there were performances by the UGA Step Team, Delta Sigma Theta, a cappella group The Accidentals, Dance Dawgs and Tap Dawgs.

Glenn sang Christina Aguilera’s “Impossible.” She, along with this year’s three runners up – Jennifer Griffith, Meg McWhorter and Laura Aquilino – will advance to compete in Campus Superstar in Atlanta.

“It’s hard because the audience loves you, and then the judges are like, ‘you suck,’” said finalist Javy Johnson.

While the judges may have been strict with their critiques, the audience, which almost sold out Hodgson Hall, was very supportive and energetic for each contestant.

“The audience was great,” contestant Zack Albrecht said. “They really helped me be calm.”

Adam Klein, Student Life Coordinator at UGA Hillel, said UGA Idol proceeds benefit Prevent Child Abuse America and Hillels of Georgia.
