Worth The Drive: Hinder
The Tabernacle, Atlanta
Look up the word “disgruntled” in a thesaurus, and you’ll find the word “hinder” among the entries.
That’s what the platinum selling band did to determine the name for their music group years ago.
Surely the members of Hinder aren’t disgruntled anymore with its successful No. 1 single, “Lips of an Angel” and a headlining tour coming to Atlanta Sunday to The Tabernacle.
Hinder’s varied collection of songs incorporates all of the essentials: sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. But fans find more to love in their music than the basics.
“Their lyrics are honest and more situational than general emotions,” said Becky Brannon, a junior from Danielsville. “They don’t just sing about breaking up and losing someone. They incorporate dialogue and action into their lyrics that you can visualize.”
Hinder first released an independent album, “Far From Close,” which sold over 5,000 copies. This debut caught the ears of record producers at Universal Records, who produced the album “Extreme Behavior” in 2005.
The first single, “Get Stoned,” hit airwaves but never found a large audience. “Lips of an Angel” was a different story.
The single skyrocketed to No. 1 and officially put the group on the map.
Hinder has toured with an array of popular rock groups including Shinedown, Nickelback, Godsmack and even a few openings for Aerosmith last year.
“Their stage presence reminds me of Aerosmith,” said Brannon, who saw Hinder in concert at last year’s Jingle Jam presented by Star 94. “I would describe them as having a solid rock sound and not pop.”
