University Police took a computer from a University dorm room as part of their investigation into fake IDs being distributing from someone at the University to students at other colleges, police said.
Police searched the dorm room Monday after a U.S. Postal Inspector in Phoenix, alerted police on Feb. 26 of fake IDs being shipped from the University.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s forensic unit is helping University Police perform a complete forensics search of the computer, University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said.
Police have interviewed several individuals but have not made any arrests yet, Williamson said.
Police could not comment any further on the case Wednesday because the investigation still is ongoing, he said.
A Fayette County grand jury indicted a University doctoral student Tuesday on charges of soliciting sex from a minor and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor.
Peachtree City’s District Attorney’s office set Govinda Basnet’s arraignment hearing for April 24.
Basnet, 41, was arrested on Dec. 13 after he engaged in sexually explicit conversations with an undercover police officer he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.
