By on March 20, 2007

The University community is on alert for any information concerning missing graduate student Yongsheng Li, who was last seen on March 10.

Li, 30, left his home in family graduate housing and has not been seen or heard from since. He is 5’7” tall, 145 pounds and wears glasses.

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, green jeans and gray sneakers.

Friends have created a Facebook group and posted flyers on campus to locate him.

“The UGA Police are involved in the case, and his wife, many friends and associates are working in various capacities to help locate him,” said David Puett, Regents professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Li received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biochemistry at Jilin University in Changchun, China. He is in the final year of his studies for a doctoral degree.

Li is expected to graduate no later than May 2008.

He is conducting his doctoral research in Puett’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology laboratory and is focusing on a project using experimental and computational approaches to understand receptor function in cells.

“He is nice, sensitive and well-liked by everyone in the lab,” Puett said. “He is excellent

with computers and lab technology. Li and his wife are both wonderful people.”

Li’s wife declined to comment.

There is no reason to suspect foul play, but the length of his absence is a concern to the family and University Police, said Lt. Lisa Boone.

“We don’t care what it is – no matter whether you think the information is important or not,” Boone said. “Everything is important, and the more information we get, the more helpful itis.”
