Bored of Regents? Just in a hurry? Here’s what matters about new policy

The Board of Regents made some policy changes, and here’s how they affect you:

University President Michael Adams got a power upgrade as a result of the new policy. The ruling, which passed unanimously, will allow institutional presidents to make employment decisions and call any meeting regarding any council, faculty or committee with a written statement submitted to Chancellor Erroll Davis. The rules also give Adams more authority in accepting monetary gifts to the University. With this new policy, how are presidents’ actions going to be checked to prevent them from wielding too much power?

The board also allocated nearly $10 million for construction, about half of which will used for building steam pipelines around East Campus and Lumpkin Street. While the campus steam lines are a way for the University to be cost-effective with heating and cooling, we can’t help but imagine the extra construction (and traffic build-up) that these changes will cause at the two locations. Will we ever be able to drive down Lumpkin Street without the fear of hitting one of those cement barriers?

The other half of the construction money will go toward remodeling the dairy farm and turning the Double Bridges Farm on Highway 78 into a research and education facility for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Now if only they could figure out a way to get rid of that animal stench…

Mazel Tov, Hooters!

The chain famous for short shorts and hot wings reveals a holy new location

The girls in the skimpy orange shorts will soon be a staple in Tel Aviv.

Israelis will be able to enjoy American-style hot wings, burgers, beer and all things tasty -including a little delicacy we like to call “eye candy” at their very own Hooters.

Plus, the brains behind all the bouncing are considering adding kosher food to the menu if there is a high enough demand.

Eventually, other parts of the the Holy Land may be considered for franchises, but there have been no formal decisions about particular locations, Hooters spokesman Mike McNeil said Tuesday.

But wait! The Atlanta-based franchise has established the wingery with a view in over 20 countries, but it doesn’t have a venue in Athens, one of the most notorious college party towns in the United States.

Athens denizens with a lust for spicy wings and saucy ladies are forced to satisfy their appetites at the too-tame Wild Wing or the too-titillating Chelsea’s. Where’s a Classic City Goldilocks to go?

According to legend, there used to be a Hooters located on Baxter Street, somewhere in the vicinity of the library and IHOP. Today, however, Athens residents must venture out of town to find Hooters’ signature wings and breasts. Er, legs. Wait – ambience.

If Israeli men will be able to lie to their wives and say they’re going to watch the game and not the gals, then shouldn’t those of us closer to home – Athens residents with hankerings for hot wings – be afforded the same courtesy?
