Gymnast named to SEC team for service

Georgia gymnast Kelsey Ericksen was named to the SEC gymnastics Good Works Team.

Ericksen, a senior from Cincinnati, has participated in a number of community service activities including the Special Olympics, the annual Athens SOAR 5K run and the Athens Women’s Build for Habitat for Humanity.

Along with her teammates, Ericksen also helped Athens Regional Medical Center raise money for a new Breast Health Center.

Women’s tennis no longer ranked No. 1

In tennis, the Lady Bulldogs (12-1, 5-1) dropped from the top-spot to No. 5 in the country in the latest tennis rankings. Over the weekend, Georgia suffered its first loss of the season when the team fell to Auburn 4-3 on Friday. Georgia did recover on Sunday by beating Alabama 6-1.

On the men’s side, the Bulldogs (16-0, 6-0) remain No. 1.

Two students given athletic scholarship

Softball player Kellie Middleton, of Norcross, and golfer Brendon Todd, of Charlotte, N.C., have been recognized by the University for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.

The SEC will name the 2007 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 6, which is National Student-Athlete Day.

National Student-Athlete Day celebrates student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to the community.
