With the trees blossoming and the temperature still manageable, spending as much time outside as possible is an important activity for many students.

Last week was the beginning of the University’s Music Business Program’s outdoor lunchtime concerts for students. It continues Friday, rain or shine.

The Terry Tunes concerts are held at North Campus’ Herty Field at noon and will take place several Fridays in March and April.

Terry Tunes will showcase Athens bands and musicians handpicked by program coordinator Keith Perissi.

Perissi said several factors contributed to which bands would be asked to play Terry Tunes.

“We chose both a variety of music styles and acts that are up and coming in the Athens music scene,” he said.

“(Because) this is an acoustic concert series, acts that could perform well in an acoustic setting were among the first considered.”

The students of the Music Business Program are responsible for the planning and running of the concert – booking, promotion, setting up and tearing down.

“The students are learning everything there is to know about concert and event promotion and production in a hands on, real world environment,” Perissi said.

Orchestral indie-pop band Venice Is Sinking played the debut show, and Friday’s show includes local rocker Bain Mattox and his wife Amanda Kapousouz, a fiddle player who performs as Tin Cup Prophette.

Future Terry Tunes concerts will include jazz guitarist Trey Wright.
