The boys of Warm in the Wake have found their niche in the business, and with good reason.

The lyrics and music of their debut CD “Gold Dust Trail” take the listener by surprise with its catchy melodies and smooth instrumentation.

Hailing from the South, the members pull from all aspects of their lives to create characters and imagery from their pasts. Chris Rowell (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals), Dan Barker (piano, organ, synthesizer, vocals), Andy Barker (bass, vocals) and James Taylor Jr. (drums) lead the listener into a world of familiar experiences.

The songs are driven by classic drum beats and
supersonic, experimental elements from the keys and synthesizer.

The lyrics and lead vocals on “Good King” are somewhat reminiscent of the early Guster “Keep It Together” stuff while keeping a bit more rock guitar in the background.

One interesting pink elephant on the CD is track number six titled “Ironworkers.” Here, the band shifts back into their Alabama roots with a sound much like that of Ryan Adams’ country songs. A slide guitar makes the song stand out.

“Gold Dust Trail” is a solid album that will continue to gain steam as it finds popularity. These guys are winners and are not scared to be simply genuine in a world full of “indie rock” mannequins.
