Spring Fever spreads through Legion Field, infects students

By on April 30, 2007

University students can visit an amusement park on campus as classes come to an end.

The event at Legion Field is part of the University Union’s second annual “Spring Fever” celebration. The purpose is to celebrate the end of the semester and the school year.

UNIVERSITY UNION SPRING FEVER

When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today
Where: Legion Field
Price: free

“Spring Fever” will feature such attractions as a ferris wheel, free food from Chick-fil-A, water slides and other amusement park-themed activities.

“Spring Fever is a great way for students to let off steam before finals,” said Lizzy Nephew, a sophomore from Snellville and director of promotions for University Union. “It is an opportunity for students to enjoy the pretty spring weather and participate in fun entertainment.”

Although the event made its debut only last spring, students have been very supportive.

“We had a good turnout last year,” said Jill Courson, the University Union program adviser. “We also expect a good turnout this year because we have been advertising extensively and more students know about it.”

Atlanta-based radio station 95.5 The Beat will provide music at the event.

“It’s hard to cater to everyone’s musical tastes because this is such a big school made up of a diverse population,” Nephew said. “95.5 plays popular music that most students are familiar with.”

Adaobi Ofor, a senior from Riverdale, said she also thinks the station is popular with students.

“It’s a good station and it plays secular hip-hop music that everybody listens to,” Ofor said.

Nephew said the event is on a weekday because the University Union wanted to choose a day students would be on campus.

“It’s happening the day before reading day, which is perfect,” she said. “Also, Legion Field is a very accessible location. We hope people will notice the big ferris wheel and come over.”
