Dreamgirls’ Holliday to serenade Atlanta

Experience the magic of “Dreamgirls” in the original Broadway setting at the Fox Theatre’s “Theater of the Stars” in Atlanta tonight through Sunday.
“Dreamgirls” was a 1981 Broadway musical that has since been adapted into last year’s blockbuster movie of the same name.
The 2006 film stars Beyonc Knowles, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson and won numerous awards, including a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Hudson as Effie.
In this production at the Fox, Jennifer Holliday plays the lead role of Effie Melody White, according to Karen Hatchett, media contact for “Theater of the Stars.”
“It’s her piece, she loves it,” said Christopher B. Manos, producer at “Theater of the Stars.”
“She’s done (this role) for me twice before. It’s wonderful each time.”
Holliday won acclaimed fame from her role in “Dreamgirls” early in her musical career. She won a Tony for this role and a Grammy for the song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”
Holliday returns to her career-launching role again in this 25th anniversary production.
The story revolves around three young women in the music business during the 1960s. It follows their path to fame, starting as backup singers, before becoming their own musical group.
