As a freshman in college, the money may not exactly be pouring in. It’s more like a very slow trickle.

However, if you are raking in sufficient funds to pawn some off downtown in a legal way, be aware that this journey down Clayton Street may lead to the demise of your first college paycheck.

Junkman’s Daughter’s Brother kicks things off. This quirky Athens staple is two floors of everything strange, funky and fun, clothes or otherwise.

Next in line is Masáda. A store for leather junkies and outdoorsy types and located just down from Junkman’s, this store has jackets, shoes, Nalgenes and backpacks, among other things.

As a general note, Masáda is your downtown depot for waterproof gear that won’t result in the evil eye from the classmate whose eye was almost gouged out with your umbrella.

With your new eye-friendly rain garb, it’s time to cross over College Avenue.

Unless you have a knack for making small spaces larger, all your clothes won’t fit into the hardly usable closet provided by the University. Welcome to dorm life.

Cillie’s offers money for your gently worn name brands. Take advantage of this and make some cash off what you cannot squeeze into your itty-bitty living space.

In Helix you’ll find great gift ideas and offbeat, useful home items.

You are sure to discover unique goods to gussy up your dorm room.

Next is Lamar Lewis Shoe Store. Carrying reliable brands, this is a go-to store for your everyday shoes.

Now that you have the lowdown on Athens’ own strip mall, it is time to take a stroll down Baxter, up Lumpkin and across Broad to this location just waiting to snatch that new paycheck right out of your hands.
