Ticket policy found flawed

By on August 27, 2007

Although 18,026 students will line up this week to receive their football tickets, others resent the University for not allotting more student tickets despite the new ticketing process.

Students received e-mails this weekend confirming the type of ticket package they were awarded.

TICKET PICKUP

What Time: 5 to 9 p.m.

Students may pick up four other season packages with the UGAID of the person whose tickets they are
claiming.

Following a recent change in ticket distribution policy, there have been complaints pertaining to students who were not issued the correct allotment of tickets.

“My son was really upset and disillusioned,” James Lavender said of his son Matthew, a freshman from Dunwoody, who received three of the seven home game tickets.

“It seems that it is at the expense of the students when the stadium holds 90,000 and there are 30,000 students, but not all students get season tickets,” Lavender said. “Something’s missing.

It should be for the students.”

Josh White, a junior from Fayetteville, started a Facebook group called “UGA 2007 Football,” where students can exchange their tickets with students who did not receive tickets to the game. White said he got the full season package.

“I haven’t had any problems (with registration),” he said.

Total credit hours do not ensure that upperclassmen will receive full season packages, according to www.georgiadogs.com, but they will be allowed to pick up their tickets before other students.

Students who have 65 or more credit hours can pick up their tickets today at Stegemen Coliseum from 5 to 9 p.m., the email said.

Pick-up for students with 50 or more credit hours begins Tuesday during the same time slot.

All students with 15 credit hours or more can pick up their tickets Wednesday.

New students and those with 15 credit hours or less may pick up their tickets Thursday.

Beginning on their designated pick-up day, students may collect their tickets throughout the week. Students planning on sitting next to their pals this season will have to brave the heat together to receive tickets from the same ticket booth and ensure they receive adjacent seats.

Friends may collect tickets for other students, but there is a maximum allowance of four ticket packages per student.

In order to pick up tickets for another student, a UGA student ID is required and the ticket-collector also must be picking up their own tickets at that time.

If you are unable to bring the ID, a photocopy of both their UGA student ID and drivers license will be accepted as a substitute.

Students may not retrieve tickets for another student who falls outside of their credit-hour range. For example, a senior with 100 hours may not pick up tickets for a student with 55 hours until Tuesday.

Thursday is the final day for all students to pick up tickets.

Students with more than 75 hours can pick up away game tickets Sept. 18. Students with less than 75 hours can pick up away game tickets Sept. 19 and 20.

If you are unable to pick them up, you may either have a friend pick them up for you or contact the University Ticket Office at 706-542-1231 by 4 p.m. on Thursday.
