Women learn football from Univ. staffers

By on September 14, 2007

More than 350 women took part in Georgia’s “Football 101 For Women” camp in June for a unique insight into the game of football and various aspects surrounding a major college program.

University football staff members conducted the session at the Butts-Mehre athletic complex, the Rankin Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center and Woodruff Practice Fields.

After three hours of classroom segments, the groups had lunch and proceeded to the Butts-Mehre complex for weight room instruction, training room policies and procedures and motivational lectures.

In the afternoon, the women spent two-and-a-half hours on the field practicing what they had learned earlier in the day. Afterwards, the group headed to the stadium for pictures.

This next event is scheduled for June 13, 2008. It will be the fourth held by the University football staff, and the class will be limited to the first 350 applicants. The cost is $135 per person. For information, please call 706-542-1307 and ask for Ann Hunt. Register early. Class is full when the first 350 register.

“Football 101 For Women” has raised $40,000 for the endowment for a woman’s athletic scholarship. It is the goal of the Georgia Football coaching staff to endow a full scholarship by 2013.
