Richt says freshman tailback not top Dog
Knowshon Moreno may be the SEC Freshman of the Week, but he’s not ready to start at tailback for the Bulldogs, according to head coach Mark Richt.
At his weekly news conference Tuesday, Richt said, “That’s not going to happen. Knowshon’s not ready to be the starter yet, in my opinion. He’s talented but he’s still growing. He’s still learning. It’s tough to do. And Thomas (Brown) is playing extremely well in his own right and he’s a great leader, too. You’ve got to have leadership.”
Stafford discusses o-line, receivers
Sophomore quarterback Matthew Stafford spent part of Tuesday’s news conference discussing two of the team’s most scrutinized aspects, the offensive line and his receivers.
“They’re young and will make some mistakes, but when they know what they’re doing they’re playing hard, getting their hats in the right spot and making some big plays for us,” he said of the young o-line.
Stafford also defended his oft-embattled receiving corps, including tight end Tripp Chandler.
“Sometimes I will say something (about dropped passes) and sometimes I won’t, but I just forget about it and try to get the next play in,” he said.
“(Chandler’s) got some of the best hands on the team, truthfully. Sometimes you’re going to just have one of those days.”
Richt lifts media ban on Tuesdays
Richt has lifted the ban on media at practice – sort of. Practices will be opened for 20 minutes on Tuesdays between the first and fourth periods as the team works in full pads on fundamentals.
