Refuge available for victims of violence
In light of the Oct. 3 article in The Red & Black “Police Investigates Sexual Assault Cases,” I would like to take the opportunity to remind the campus community that the Office for Violence Prevention serves as a key resource for all students impacted by an act of violence. The OVP provides a myriad of advocacy and support services to aid in the healing process.
The OVP provides refuge and a safe haven for students. The mission of the OVP is to engage and empower community members to work together, creating an environment intolerant of violence. All services are confidential and free and are available to all University students.
The OVP has sponsored several sexual violence awareness programs this semester – Walking the Walk, a sexual violence awareness simulation, Sister-to-Sister: Safety in the Classic City for women and Spin the Bottle: Sex, Lies and Alcohol.
The OVP will be sponsoring several relationship violence awareness programs throughout the month of October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
As the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator (RSVP), I invite students concerned about safety on campus to get involved with the RSVP Peer Education Leadership
Program to promote a safer campus for all. For more information about the OVP and its support services or to request a program, contact Larry Gourdine at 542- SAFE (7233) or visit the OVP Web site at www.uga.edu/ovp.

Chandler’s sister defends tight end
I live in another state, and with that comes heckling about Georgia and the University. You better believe I counter that heckling with nothing but rock solid loyalty for my beloved alma mater.
As much as I love the University, I love my family more.
When you read the end of this letter, you will see that my last name is the same as the tight end’s that my “University family” has been so quick to criticize. Come on guys – hate mail? Boos? You people need to get a grip. I can guarantee not one of you who booed Tripp Chandler on Saturday wanted him to catch the ball more than he did.
He loves Georgia football, and if you asked him if he’d rather be a superstar or the team do well, he’d tell you he’s for the team.
That’s because Tripp Chandler understands loyalty. He’s as humble as they come and he may not tell you overzealous rude fans to shove it, but his big sister will.
Tripp is kind and incapable of spewing hateful comments at rude fans, but I’m not. So if you ever feel encouraged to boo him again, or any other player for that matter, you better look around and make sure that you don’t see someone wearing a number 86 pin. I’m not as kind and humble as he is and I’m sick to death of the lack of loyalty from my “University family.”

Reader a fan of Marine showers
I want to thank you guys for printing the Oct. 4 “Our Take” about the different kinds of showers one can take. I (sheepishly) admit that I advocate the Marine shower. I may get made fun of, but who is going to save your butt from high water prices? Me.
I also wanted to add two more genres of shower: Dual Showering. Take a shower with your significant other. It’s sexy and efficient. Or make it a competition in your apartment to take the shortest shower, and whoever loses that week has to buy alcohol, groceries or dinner.
