Richt’s dedication to game indisputable
In Philip Henderson’s Oct. 9 letter, his complaints about what Coach Richt has done at this University since his arrival are unbelievable. Henderson was under the impression Richt would do at Georgia what he did when he was at Florida State. Richt was the offensive coordinator at Florida State, not the head coach.
Yes, Richt was successful against Florida, and he did coach two Heisman Trophy winners and he also was a part of two National Championship teams.
However, the talent level at Florida State during Richt’s tenure as their OC was on another level. He has not had the kind of talent at Georgia that he had at Florida State.
Georgia has elite talent. But Florida State went 14 straight years finishing in the top four. That likely never will be accomplished again.
Did Georgia have great teams in 2002, 2004, and 2005? Yes. Were they national championship caliber teams? Close, but not quite. I know everyone is upset after Saturday’s debacle in Knoxville, but please be realistic. Despite a few players here and there, we are a young and inexperienced team. Have some patience. Henderson questioned whether Richt takes his job seriously. Richt is one of only nine coaches in the history of college football to win 60 games in his first six years as a head coach. Georgia went 20 years without an SEC title before Richt arrived. He won two in six years. I think he knows what he’s doing, and believe me, he takes his job seriously.

Column’s racism argument flimsy
The Oct. 9 column about “Desperate Housewives” making a racist joke almost made me roll my eyes. If only the content hadn’t already been tackled for the trillionth time.
The author claims the joke about inept Filipino medical schools is racist and perpetuates negative stereotypes. I didn’t know there was a stereotype about Filipino medical schools to perpetuate. What matters is the author chooses to go on a “Housewives” embargo and suddenly become a social activist just because her heritage was loosely defamed by the antics of Marc Cherry.
If stereotypes are so harmful, how about initiating a march to Washington Monument when the show portrayed blacks as criminals? Or when a gay teenager becomes a street prostitute? Or when Marcia Cross’ character made fun of hillbillies?
Do these stereotypes not matter because they don’t attack her personally, or is the author the worst selective listener ever? Give me a break. Go watch “Teletubbies,” where the dialogue is minimal and the intelligence is commensurate.

Praise for pit bull breeding article
Thank you for the excellent Oct. 10 coverage of the much-maligned pit bull. I appreciated your debunking the “dangerous dog” myth surrounding pit bulls and other breeds.
However, rather than highlighting pit bull breeding, the article should have addressed the vast overpopulation of companion animals. As guardians of these companion animals, we should have them spayed or neutered rather than contributing to their overpopulation through unnecessary breeding.
If you really want a pit bull, or any breed, or a mixed-breed, adopt a dog from a shelter.
Many dogs need to be rescued from these situations: I found my pit bull Bullitt on the side of the road. See www.athenspets.net for plenty of adoptable pets.
