Woman harassed at local store

By on November 8, 2007

Police are using surveillance tapes to locate a man who sexually harassed a University woman shopping at Wal-Mart Tuesday.

The 19-year-old woman said the man grabbed her buttocks twice while she was at Wal-Mart on Lexington Road at 7 p.m., said Athens-Clarke County Officer Robert Dunlap.

According to the police report filed by Dunlap:

The woman said she was looking at clothes when the man approached her and said, “You are looking fine.” She thanked him and walked away, and told Dunlap she hoped the man would get the hint and leave.

However, the man grabbed her buttocks, and she shoved him and yelled at him.

He began walking toward the back of the store and then approached her from the opposite side. He grabbed her from behind by the waist and pulled her against him. When she turned around and tried to shove him away again, he grabbed her buttocks again.

She told Dunlap she then yelled again loudly.

The man walked away and went to the back of the store. Surveillance footage showed that he left the store through the grocery exit. Pictures of the suspect were submitted as evidence.

The suspect is described as a black man between the ages of 16 and 18, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches, with short hair, medium complexion and a medium build. He wore a gray T-shirt and baggy red shorts.
