Here came the Chief
University President Michael Adams came to visit our newsroom Wednesday to discuss campus topics. When asked about his retirement plans, Adams said he was “re-energized” in his work and would like to see several projects, such as the medical school and a special collections library, come to fruition during his term, and we want to commend him for the job he’s done so far.

Foretelling the forecast?
Gov. Sonny Perdue & Co. gathered Tuesday on the state capitol steps to pray for rain. Late Wednesday it began to shower. We’re not sure whether Perdue consulted meteorologists to execute a political stunt or if there is an invisible warfare being waged against the drought demons.

Boo, TV strikes
As week three approaches in the Hollywood writers’ strike, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said earlier this week that he would try to meet with the writers to resolve the issue. We hope the Governator can bring some peace to the situation – we’re starting to get worried about our favorite shows.

Blacken the night
OK, maybe we did look like a bunch of lemmings in our black attire at Saturday’s game, but the donning of the dark color worked for fan spirit and for the football team as it steamrolled over Auburn. Now as we pull into the Bulldogs’ last home game of the season, we all should get ready to hunker down one more time – in red – in Sanford stadium.

Quit playing games with fans’ hearts
Another one bit the dust for Georgia men’s basketball Wednesday when Billy Humphrey was suspended indefinitely from the team after University Police charged the starting shooting guard Tuesday with a felony possession of a weapon on school property. First, there were attendance issues, then there was Takais Brown and now this? Look on the bright side, though – at least our freshmen are getting some playing time.

Watch us lean, watch us rock
Okay, Soulja Boy. You’ve got the entire nation enraptured in your Robocop clutches, and just hearing the first few beats of “Crank Dat” gets our football players and fans excited. Until another song and instructional dance video comes along, we’ll be cranking this everyday.

Quote of the week: “We (the seniors and Richt) kept it a secret. People were calling me, text-messaging me, asking if we were wearing black jerseys. I said no. The seniors knew since the summer so it was real hard to keep it a secret. Even last night in the hotel room, (sophomore defensive tackle) Kade Weston – he’s my roommate – he didn’t know. I was almost tempted to tell him. I didn’t tell my girlfriend, I didn’t tell my mama, I didn’t tell my auntie, I didn’t tell nobody. It was amazing.”
