Student injured in baseball bat incident

By on March 24, 2008

A fight at the Chi Psi fraternity house Friday left one male student injured and the other charged with battery, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

Jeffrey Gloss of Marietta is accused of striking Blake Bartholomew in the leg with a baseball bat.

ACC Police reported to the S. Milledge Avenue residence at 3:21 a.m. According to the police report:

Gloss became angry when Bartholomew knocked on his door and woke him up. Bartholomew knocked on two other doors in the residence. A verbal fight began, and as Bartholomew went down the stairs, Gloss struck him in the leg with a metal baseball bat he got from his room.

Police determined Bartholomew was under the influence of alcohol and Gloss was under the influence of marijuana during the fight.

Police took Gloss’ bat, which left a red mark on Bartholomew’s leg. Police photographed the injury and recorded two consistent witness statements.

Gloss was arrested and charged with battery, and Bartholomew plans to file charges against Gloss.
