Four former Georgia lettermen will return to campus as honorary coaches for Saturday’s G-Day Game, head coach Mark Richt said Wednesday.

Recent standouts D.J. Shockley, now a quarterback with the Atlanta Falcons, and Greg Blue, a safety with the Detroit Lions, will be on the sidelines with a pair of Bulldogs from the 1980s.

The pair includes former linebacker Frank Ros, who was captain of the 1980 Georgia national championship team, and Kevin Butler, a College Football Hall of Fame kicker.

Butler’s son, Drew, is a redshirt freshman competing for the Bulldogs’ kicking duties in the fall, and Ros’ son, Bryce, is a tight end who signed with Georgia in February.

Time limitations, quarters prepared

Richt also outlined the format of the G-Day Game, which will consist of four 10-minute quarters and a clock that will run as if in a normal game.

As usual, special teams will not be live, Richt said. The Bulldogs will punt and kick extra points, but there will be no contact when they do.

There will be no kickoffs, and Richt said there is a possibility of letting the clock run later in the game.

Richt unsatisfied with final practice

Georgia’s final full-contact practice before the spring closes on Saturday left Richt markedly displeased Wednesday afternoon.

“There were some spurts of energy, and I’m sure there’s a couple guys giving it their all the entire time, but if you look at the whole picture, it was half-hearted at best. I just told the guys we’re not going to win anything practicing like that,” Richt said, referencing the high expectations for a team coming off a final No. 2 national ranking last season.
