A University student was arrested Sunday and charged with possession of a weapon on school property, according to a police report.

University Police found a 12-gauge shotgun in a white 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck belonging to Jess Stuart McNeill, a senior from Americus, the report stated.

The vehicle containing the weapon was found in the North Campus parking deck at 2:19 p.m.

Police identified McNeill as the owner of the shotgun. He was arrested at the scene at 2:34 p.m. and later transported to the Clarke County Jail, according to the report.

McNeill may face a felony charge or dismissal from the University if he is found in violation of the University weapons policy.

The University policy states that it is illegal to possess a weapon within 1,000 feet of school property.

McNeill declined to comment about his arrest.
