Georgia senior Kelley Hyndman advanced to the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championships with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (3) win over Denver’s No. 70 Mallory Voelker Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Hyndman will face Baylor’s Zuzana Zemenova in the round of 32 Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET. Zemenova upset the No. 5 seed Marina Cossou of California, 6-4, 6-1. Hyndman and Zemenova met in Georgia’s match at Baylor on March 11 with Zemenova posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Hyndman, ranked No. 58, led Voelker 3-2 in the third set before Voelker rallied to win the next three games. Hyndman then came back to tie the set a five and eventually forced a tiebreaker where she prevailed.

“I started out playing well in the first set, then she came right back in the second set,” Hyndman said. “She was ahead 5-3 in the third set and I told myself it might be my last tennis match at Georgia. I just had to hang in there.”

Hyndman won her fifth straight match to improve to 24-18.

Yvette Hyndman, Georgia’s other singles competitor, fell to VCU’s No. 43 Tatsiana Uvarova, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Hyndman, ranked No. 39, finishes the season with a 23-14 record. The first-team All-SEC selection led the team with eight wins over ranked opponents.
