So bright red “under 21″ signals are still stamped all over your license and days of being the oldest big shots at school are over.

No need to worry.

Athens has something for all high school graduates, and as long as you don’t wear your orientation badge at these venues, no one has to know you’re the new kid in town.

40 Watt Club

This venue is legendary and stepping foot inside is a treat. Magazines continue naming it to their “Best Venues” lists, as the original Athens music scene was born here, though the actual location has changed a bit over time, and the music represented can suit anyone’s tastes. “The variety of shows we have at the club [is unique]. You might catch Of Montreal one night and Kenny Chesney the next,” said Velena Vego, the 40 Watt Club’s talent buyer.

Georgia Theatre

Always 18 and up, Georgia Theatre has shows from the mainstream (country’s Taylor Swift) to the not-so-mainstream (Sublime tribute band One Way). The Theatre, as it’s called around town, can hold up to 900 eager audience members.

The Melting Point

One of the newest entertainment spots in Athens, The Melting Point offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere with light bluegrass or singer/songwriters tunes.

“We do less show that are college-rock/indie-rock as there are four to five other venues in town that have a long history of presenting shows of those genres,” said Troy Aubrey, booking agent. The Melting Point is also a good spot to grab a bite to eat while taking in a show.

Nuci’s Space

Founded in memory of Nuci Phillips, a young man who committed suicide, Nuci’s Space offers practice room for up and coming musicians and shows, encouraging treatment for depression and anxiety disorders. “We are a community center. Here are our offices where we raise money for our primary reason for existing – which is to provide counseling and therapy to local musicians and artists,” said Will Kiser, a staff member at Nuci’s.

Also for 18-friendly entertainment, try Caledonia Lounge located on West Clayton Street, Little Kings for Monday night Rock & Roll Trivia and Flicker Theatre and Bar for movie nights and musical performances.
