Sophomore Lacey Sombar, an art major, reads The Red & Black in Myers Quad. When the sun is shining, Myers Quad is a good place to catch a nap, throw a frisbee with some friends or even study.

It’s a sunny afternoon, and you and some buddies are thinking you want to go throw the football around.

Maybe you are in the mood to put on a glove and throw a baseball. Or you just want to get out and toss a frisbee.

Luckily for you and your friends, there are countless places that would be able to satisfy your football throwing needs, and they can be found everywhere on campus.

Since most of us mere mortals cannot use Sanford Stadium or Stegeman for a pick-up game, we have to resort to other places around campus.

Though there are green spaces dispersed throughout campus to enjoy on a nice afternoon, there are five solid places for us non-athletes to go out and relax with a nice game of catch.

1. Herty Field. If you are all about the scenery of North Campus, Herty Field is a must. Being able to play catch on the same field the University football program began is a pretty chilling experience, especially for a die-hard fan.

2. Intramural Fields. The Intramural Fields here are meant for the students to take advantage of. Although far (easily reached by using the buses), there are nine fields open for use pretty much any time of the day. Six of the fields have softball diamonds, one has rugby posts, and two are big enough to field a soccer match. Also, if you get tired of playing catch, you have Lake Harrick right there, as well as 15 tennis courts.

3. Myers Quad. The “Quad” is conveniently located near the middle of campus. It is really easy to get to from everywhere, being a short walk away from the freshman dorms and Snelling Dining Hall. Another plus is that the field is huge. You rarely will have to worry about sharing space. There also are basketball courts right next to the quad.

4. In front of the Main Library. Another field that experiences the beauty of North Campus, the field in front of the Main Library, is perfect for throwing around a Frisbee. Situated under the shade of the trees, this field offers a relaxing place to enjoy a study break, or just a place to spend time on any afternoon.

5. In front of Reed Hall. Under the majestic shadow of beautiful Sanford Stadium, the field in front of Reed Hall is a convenient place to throw the ball around. The field is just seconds away from the Student Learning Center and the Tate Center.

Since it is so conveniently located, it is easy to get a group together before or after class to get a quick game of whatever you want going.
