Lemon dismissed from team
Georgia redshirt sophomore defensive end Michael Lemon, who was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery July 3, was dismissed from the team, according to head coach Mark Richt.
“He’s been dismissed as a result of some poor decisions and conduct that is not in line with standards we have in place at Georgia,” said Richt. “I have had discussions with Michael and he understands the decision. He expressed a desire to find a path back to the team at some point but that’s a decision that will depend on several factors and will come at a later date.”
As first reported by The Red & Black June 30, Lemon is accused of punching University student DeMarius Jackson “about five times before someone pulled him off.” The incident occurred during a barbecue on June 28, but Lemon was not charged until July 2.
Jackson was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and treated for a blowout fracture to the eye.
Lemon played in seven games last season recording six total tackles.
