Despite still being held accountable for his entire sentence doled out by the Office of Judicial Programs, Georgia offensive lineman Clint Boling’s initial two-game suspension from the Athletic Association was reduced to only the season opener with Georgia Southern.

“With the change in the charges and the attitude that Clint has demonstrated I have reevaluated his situation and decided on the one-game suspension as a fair penalty,” coach Mark Richt said in a press release.

“Clint has been remorseful and pro-active in handling all his responsibilities in a mature manner with a good attitude. He’s learned a strong lesson that I’m sure will serve him well from here on.”

Boling started 11 games in 2007 and is expected to be a starter on the line this season.

Boling, 19, was arrested on May 14 on Ga. 120 in his hometown of Alpharetta just before 1:30 a.m. He allegedly nearly left the roadway and changed lanes twice without signaling in a 2002 GMC Yukon. He denied drinking and refused to take any Breathalyzer tests.

The Athens Banner-herald reported that Boling was sentenced for the reckless driving charge, instead of a DUI, and had to serve 83 hours of jail time, which he completed Monday, the paper reported. He was also placed on 12 months probation and given 54 hours of community service.

In June the University’s Office of Judicial Programs found Boling responsible for alcohol-related misconduct, placing him on probation until June 2009. He also must complete an alcohol education program with the University Health Center and has to do 40 hours of community service by November 1.

Richt also announced on Thursday that former walk-on punter Brian Mimbs was awarded a scholarship for his senior year.

“Brian has earned the scholarship,” Richt said in another release. “He’s worked hard during his career and become one of the best punters in the SEC as well as the country.”
