Tight end Chandler named to Mackey watch list
Georgia senior tight end Tripp Chandler is one of 30 players who have been named to the 2008 John Mackey Award Watch List.
Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the award is named for NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey, who is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship.
Chandler, a native of Woodstock, Ga., was the Bulldogs’ third-leading receiver in 2007, hauling in 21 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. He appeared in 12 games making 10 starts.
Presented since 2000, the John Mackey Award lists seven NFL players as alumni including the 2007 winner Fred Davis of the Washington Redskins. The 2008 winner will be announced in mid-December.
