Center hosts musicians, plays
The Metropolitan Opera in New York. The Symphony Hall in Boston. The Performing Arts Center in Athens.
Although the last one may seem out of place, the University’s Performing Arts Center, or PAC, is home to performances by many of the top artists in the world. From plays to musical concerts, there is enough variety for everyone.
“This may be the only opportunity that freshmen have had to see performers of such high caliber,” said Bobby Tyler, marketing and media relations director for PAC. “Seeing some of the most internationally-acclaimed artists perform in two of the finest venues in the country is a great opportunity for students.”
Students can buy tickets at a reduced price with a student ID and can take buy the student pass, which allows students to choose four events and pay $36.
“At only $9 an event, it’s a good price. You can barely see a movie for that price these days,” Tyler said.
The Center hosts a variety of musicians in the Hugh Hodgson and Ramsey Concert halls, both located in the PAC. This upcoming academic year, groups such as the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Choir Boys and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will grace Athens with their musical skills. Individual artists including Japanese violin player Mayuko Kamio and piano player Claude Frank will also perform.
Along with musical concerts, the Center holds many dance events throughout the year, including a dance festival. Performances in the past have included Compañia Flamenco Jose Porcel and the Russian National Ballet. Those interested in drama can see shows by the L.A. Theatre Works and the all-male a capella choir group Cantus.
The Center is located on East Campus Road. Performance and ticket information is on www.uga.edu/pac.
