Campus organizations offer volunteer options
Students can take a step into some of the largest and most influential groups on campus tomorrow during the Volunteer Resource Fair.
The fourth annual fair, sponsored by Volunteer UGA and the University’s Center for Leadership and Service, will be held at the Tate Center Plaza between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“Getting students involved in community service builds their social awareness and ultimately improves their life skills and self-image,” Anna Beale, assistant director of the Center for Leadership and Service, said in a news release.
“People who begin volunteer work in high school or college carry the spirit of service for their entire lives.”
Volunteer UGA is the home for eighteen different student organizations – AIDS Walk/Run, Alpha Phi Omega, Alternative Spring Break Best Buddies, Bulldawg Outreach to Nursing Homes and the Elderly (B.O.N.E.), Collegiate Candidates, First Book UGA, Forever Young Campaign, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Habitat for Humanity, Hear My Hands, Invisible Children, Special Olympics UGA, Students Helping Teachers, Tutoring Our Tomorrows and UGA One Campaign and UGA Relay-for-Life.
Volunteer UGA, formerly called Communiversity, was formed in 2004 as the volunteer center for the University. In 2006 the Student Leadership Center and Volunteer UGA merged and is now the Center for Leadership and Service.
Volunteer UGA connects students with opportunities for community service in Athens-Clarke County and throughout the region.
