Travels with Uga
Editor’s Note: This is the second part of The Red & Black’s “Travels with Uga” series spotlighting the away city where Georgia plays. Michael Fitzpatrick, The Red & Black’s sports editor, attended Arizona State his freshman year and will give you the rundown on the best sights, sounds, smells and tastes in the Valley of the Sun (Devils).
For those making the westward trek to Tempe, the city offers a vast array of places to wine and dine within walking distance of Sun Devil Stadium.
Rental cars are not necessary as Phoenix’ Sky Harbor International Airport and numerous hotels are literally just minutes from the campus.
For those with cars, the Tempe Marketplace, an outdoors mall just a few miles from campus, has lots of local eateries and places to shop, a stage where local bands often strike up a tune, and the Cine-Capri, the largest movie theater in the state.
BARS
The Mill Cue Club and the Zuma Grill are just a few of the bars on Mill Ave. Others include Fat Tuesday, Dueling Piano’s and Hooter’s. All have drink specials and low, if any, cover charges. Just beware of transients along Mill fishing for beer, amongst other things.
BURGERS
The menu simply consists of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries and shakes, but it has a secret that only regular patrons know about. Order your burger or fries “Animal Style” and you will not regret it even if you have to wait awhile.
