A.J. Green named SEC Freshman Player of the Week
Georgia freshman flanker A.J. Green has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week.
Green, a 6-4, 200-pound native of Summerville, S.C., recorded career highs in both receptions (eight) and yards receiving (159) during the Bulldogs’ 27-10 road win over Arizona State Saturday. Green also scored a touchdown and tallied the first rush of his career, which went for five yards.
Green is the first Bulldog to have more than 100 yards receiving in a game since Kenneth Harris had 106 yards against Mississippi State in 2006. Green’s total was the best for a Georgia receiver since Fred Gibson had 169 yards against Arkansas in 2004.
Through four games, Green is second in the SEC with an average of 75.0 yards per game and he has the most yards of any receiver in the league. He leads the Bulldogs with 16 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Starting two of the four games, he is averaging 18.8 yards per reception.
