Golf Dogs fourth in first round of Ohio tournament

The No. 3 ranked men’s golf team finished the first round of the 20th annual Ping/Golfweek Preview in Toledo, Ohio in fourth place Sunday.

The Bulldogs first round 6-over par left them alone in fourth place, eight shots behind leader Oklahoma State. The Preview, an event the Dogs won in both 2000 and 2005, has a strong field as eight teams ranked in the top 10 are competing.

Individually, senior Adam Mitchell and freshman Patrick Reed led Georgia at 1-over par, six shots behind leader Jamie Lovemark of USC. Hudson Swafford and teammate Russell Henley fired a 2-over par to place themselves in a tie for 25th. 2005 Preview Champion, senior Brian Harman, struggled on the day with a 6-over par 77.

The tournament will continue today and finish Tuesday.

Tennis team makes tourney qualifier

Georgia’s doubles duo of Cameron Ellis and Naoko Ueshima along with senior Monika Dancevic, freshman Nadja Gilchrist all adavanced to the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships qualifying event.

The Ellis/Ueshima team won three times during the weekend, including twice Sunday to advance to the Pacific Palisdades that begins Tuesday.

Dancevic and Gilchrist are now in the qualifying draw, along with Ueshima, junior Yvette Hyndman and freshman Chelsey Gullickson.
