After splitting its games last weekend, the Georgia women’s soccer team knows that it needs to do one thing this weekend.

“We have to win,” junior forward Carrie Patterson said.

The Bulldogs (3-8-1, 1-2-1 SEC) need to win the majority of the seven games left on the schedule if they hope to qualify for the NCAA tournament and that begins with Southeastern Conference opponents Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

“I think we need to come out and get back up to .500,” senior defender Megan Tomlinson said. “We should definitely come out and be able to win the next seven games.”

Added Patterson: “We have to get a result at this point. Our record is not very good, and I think Vanderbilt and Kentucky are both teams we can compete with, if not win.”

Tomlinson stressed that good defense will be key to getting a win against the Commodores tonight.

The defense contains the Commodores’ sophomore forward Molly Kinsella, who has scored five goals this season.

“[Kinsella's] got some talent,” Tomlinson said. “She’s one of their key players.”

Against both Vanderbilt and Kentucky, though, the Bulldogs need to have fluidity in attack, while also maintaining a team mentality.

“[We have to] keep creating quality chances,” Tomlinson said. “We need to attack and defend as a team.”

Although the Bulldogs’ last practice of the week was rained out Thursday, the team made the most of its time by watching game film of its two upcoming opponents.

“[Head coach Patrick Baker] just wanted us to see more of our opponents,” Tomlinson said. “We got to see how they play and their style.”
