Soccer team tops Vandy 2-0
The Georgia women’s soccer team rebounded from a
disappointing loss to Louisiana State with its most complete
win of the season Friday night.
The Bulldogs (4-8-1, 2-2-1 SEC) picked up a valuable
Southeastern Conference win by beating the Vanderbilt
Commodores 2-0.
“We definitely delivered tonight,” sophomore defender Kelli
Corless said. “Offensively, we were pretty solid, as well as
defensively. It was an all-around good match.”
The Bulldogs were buoyed by long-range goals from freshman
forward Ashley Miller and junior midfielder Natalie Farley.
Despite missing a penalty kick, Georgia still found enough
offense to overcome a resolute Vanderbilt team.
However, more importantly for Georgia, the Bulldogs managed
their second clean sheet of the season and first since the
season-opening victory over Mercer Aug. 22.
“We finally shut a team out and that’s what we’ve been trying
to do all year,” Farley said. “We haven’t been able to pull
very many of those out.”
The win is a good springboard for a Georgia team that hopes a
strong SEC run will result in an NCAA tournament opportunity.
The Kentucky Wildcats are the next team up during the
Bulldogs’ march through the SEC. Georgia hosts the Wildcats
at 1 p.m. Sunday at the UGA Soccer Complex.
