First Quarter: UGA 14-LSU 7
On the first play from scrimmage, linebacker Darryl Gamble intercepted a Jarrett Lee pass and took it to the end zone for a score. LSU countered Gamble’s pick-six with a long drive, capped off by a screen pass from Lee to Brandon LaFell for a touchdown. Georgia marched right back down the field, highlighted by three receptions by wide receiver Michael Moore. Fred Munzenmaier scored Georgia’s second touchdown on a 1-yard fullback dive. After forcing an LSU punt, Georgia began its second offensive drive. Running back Knowshon Moreno burst through a hole for a big gain. Georgia moved the ball to LSU’s 5-yard-line as the first quarter came to a close.
Second Quarter: UGA 24-LSU 17
On the first play of the second quarter, quarterback Matthew Stafford lofted a pass to wide receiver Kenneth Harris for a touchdown. On LSU’s following possession, the Tigers drove to Georgia’s 34-yard-line as LSU kicker Colt David put in a 51-yard field goal, making him LSU’s all-time leading scorer. On LSU’s next possession, the Tigers made it a 4-point game as Charles Scott powered his way into the end zone for a score. Georgia finished a high-scoring first half with a 50-yard Blair Walsh field goal.
Third Quarter: UGA 38-LSU 24
Georgia extended its lead early in the second half when Stafford hit A.J. Green on a 49-yard pass for a touchdown. After LSU drove down to Georgia’s 32-yard-line, David missed a 49-yard field goal try. On the ensuing play, Moreno took a handoff 68 yards down the field for a touchdown. LSU responded quick, as Scott took a handoff for 42 yards. Scott then punched the ball in for a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Fourth Quarter: UGA 52-LSU 38
The scoring barrage didn’t stop here. Georgia added another touchdown as Stafford found the end zone on a 7-yard quarterback draw. However, LSU wouldn’t go away. The Tigers responded with a big passing play from Lee to running back Keiland Williams that went 66 yards and got LSU to the Georgia 6-yard-line. Lee found Williams again for a touchdown to cut Georgia’s lead to 14. Georgia’s final score came on a second Gamble interception for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. LSU also added a late score as Lee found LaFell for a 43-yard touchdown.
