U.S. needs president who ‘embraces cultural diversity’
Blacks have overcome many struggles in this country.
During the Civil Rights Movement, black leaders fought hard to achieve greater opportunities for all minorities. Although blacks enjoy more freedoms today than ever before, our voices are still underrepresented in America’s political system, which is why I believe America is finally ready for a minority president to lead the people.
Since our country was founded, blacks have been seen as inferior to whites. Blacks’ subservient position is nowhere more clearly evident than in American politics.
As a result, many blacks like myself are proud to see an intelligent black man like Barack Obama run for the most powerful position in America.
Obama represents the dreams of minorities across the country. Because Obama has learned to appreciate being the child of a black father and a white mother, I think he will guide our nation further in embracing cultural diversity amongst all people in America.
Along with symbolizing unity among different races, Obama is intelligent and well-educated. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School.
In addition to excelling academically, I think Obama’s job as a “community organizer” shows he truly cares about the needs and concerns of ordinary people. I admire that Obama listens to people and is willing to fight for their rights.
I also believe Michelle Obama would be an excellent first lady of our great nation. Like her husband, Michelle is well-educated and articulate.
One of the main reasons I support Obama is because I agree with bringing an end to the war in Iraq. We must bring our troops home to prevent future American deaths.
Also, I agree with Obama’s desire that every American should have access to affordable health care and a better education.
Even though I strongly support Obama, I do admire that John McCain is an American war hero.
The main problem I have with McCain is he voted with George W. Bush much of the time, which makes him no “maverick” in my eyes.
McCain made a poor choice when he selected Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Palin is not qualified nor ready to be the president of the United States if something happens to McCain. Also, Todd Palin’s attempt to leave the union is the most unpatriotic thing I have heard throughout this entire election cycle.
Overall, I strongly believe that Obama is willing and able to meet the needs of America’s people.
