Zack and Miri make a love story

By on November 6, 2008

“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” introduces its audience to the seedy underbelly of adult entertainment via a romantic comedy under the guise of a spoof.

In this much-hyped film, two supposedly platonic friends, Zack and Miri (Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks), set out to cure their financial woes by making a porno.

But who would have guessed it, sex with a best friend changes everything?

Not the most original twist to an amateur porn spoof.

The obvious “dormant love” between Zack and Miri is prematurely released.

As for their sex scene on a bag of coffee beans, it was pathetic.

ZACK AND MIRI
MAKE A PORNO

Grade: B-
Verdict: The film dives into romantic comedy in a way that may leave a nauseatingly sweet taste in one’s mouth.

The lovemaking was an uneven, bland version of the all-out sex shots shown throughout the rest of the movie.

The man behind such

films as “Clerks” and “Dogma,” director Kevin Smith attempted to add a dash of heart to his usual raunchy concoctions.

The result is a saccharine mess.

Casting what are typically Judd Apatow’s selects (Rogen, Banks and Robinson), the movie has been confused with an Apatow-style romantic comedy.

Rogen’s clumsy confessions of undying love and Banks’ ill-fated attempt to pass off a blonde princess demeanor as a quirky goof leaves the viewer unimpressed.

Banks’ overly adorable looks and constantly batting eyes corral her in the realm of romance, yet she tries to ‘be one of the guys.’

A gang of skin flick veterans fleshes out the rest of the cast.

Ex-porn diva Traci Lords makes a memorable appearance as the aptly named “Bubbles.” (As if the previews haven’t given away her special talent for you.)

Though not quite as vile as “Clerks,” Smith still delivers a collection of characters with the same sailor-mouthed dialogue for which he has been made infamous.

“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is good film to see, but keep in mind, it is a sugarcoated cousin to raunchier greats.
