Before heading into Thanksgiving break, the Georgia swimming and diving teams baked and carved the Emory University Eagles in order to make room on their plates for some real holiday grub.

A 137-89 victory over the Emory women extended the No. 1 Lady Bulldogs’ home winning streak to 64 while the No. 10 men’s team also dominated Emory 139-90.

Facing a Division III opponent gave the men’s and women’s teams the opportunity to play some musical chairs in the pool. The teams switched swimmers for the first time all season, attempting to see just how deep the squads actually are.

“All the meets have been so high pressure so far that we haven’t been able to move anybody around,” head coach Jack Bauerle told georgiadogs.com.

“It’s important for them to do other events to help some others. Emory is one of the class programs of Division III. They always have some good people, but we just had more depth and more strength.”

That depth and strength led to seven women winning events and six men winning events.

The Lady Bulldogs flexed their muscles as they swept the 200 medley and won seven of the next eight events. Kelsey Scott won the 1,000 free in 10:19.29, Kelsey Ditto won the 200 free with a time of 1:49.16 and Aleksandra Putra won the 400 individual medley in 4:19.58.

Putting up victories in the three 100-yard distance races were Chelsea Nauta, swimming 100 butterfly in 56.78; Michelle McKeehan, swimming the 100 freestyle in 50.77 and Morgan Scroggy, swimming the 100 backstroke in 56.91.

The men’s team came out of the locker room and won the first seven races to slam the door on Emory chances of competing.

Troyden Prinsloo won the 1,000 freestyle in 9:19.29, and Mark Dylla won the 200 freestyle, Chris Spooner was victorious in the 50 free with a time of 21.49, and Peter Benner won the 400 individual medley posting a time of 3:51.84.

The Bulldogs also won the three 100-yard distance races in the butterfly (Martin Kata), the freestyle (Michael Arnold) and the backstroke (Dylla.)

The swimming and diving teams now turn their attention to the University of Georgia Invite from Friday to next Sunday, that will feature numerous teams including: Clemson, Harvard, Denver, West Virginia and California.
