Georgia freshman swimmer Allison Schmitt is finding herself facing additional Olympic competition.

She participated in the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, and she will be competing against fellow Olympic swimmers in this weekend’s 2008 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming Short Course National Championships.

The events, which run from Thursday through Saturday, will be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Athletes who are competing include fellow U.S. Olympic medalists Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones and Garrett Weber-Gale, amongst a host of other Olympians.

Schmitt, who won a bronze medal as part of the 800-meter freestyle relay team in China, is expected to compete in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 meter freestyles and the 200-m butterfly.

Though she is the only current Bulldog competing, many incoming and former Georgia swimmers will participate, including signees Adrienne Bicek, Kelsey Gaid, Jana Mangimelli, Megan Romano and Graham Munger. Former swimmers Andrea Georoff and Mary DeScenza will be there.
